We Were Hanging Out With Governor Gary Johnson on a Very Rough Day

09.09.16

Aleppo. Uh Oh.

Free Media and our partners at Heat Street were following Libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson on his visit to New York City. The governor came to town to accelerate his campaign and do a wave of interviews with national media.

Governor Johnson says that he is not cheap, but he is frugal. He and his small campaign staff stayed in a very modest Holiday Inn in Midtown Manhattan, and they walked and took taxies everywhere. There were no big black limousines, no helicopters and no pretension.

Riding a wave of very successful interviews, Governor Johnson started his day with an appearance on MSNBC. What happened during that interview was the biggest news he has made since his campaign started, and not for the right reasons.

The governor made a very significant gaffe, but he also thoroughly owned it. When you spend some time with him you realize that says a lot about the man. He is humble, reasonable, and as he told us “he was born with an overdose of common sense.”
